Ryan Garcia relives fight with Davis and claims Gervonta was scared
As he builds towards his next fight with Devin Haney, Ryan Garcia has looked back on his last world title fight and claimed he would have won had he done one thing differently.
25-year-old Garcia took on Baltimore boxer Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis in April last year and never really got close to the defending world champ. He eventually lost by knockout when the powerful Davis landed a sickening body shot in the seventh stanza.
Right now, Garcia is working towards a world title fight with Haney at the Barclays Centre in New York that has been plagued by controversy.
The Californian has behaved erratically in the build-up and many are worried about the state of his mental health, though he has said he will sue if the New York commission moves to assess that professionally. He has admitted to drinking, smoking weed, claims he has been kidnapped, had his funds and phone taken away from him, plus plenty more unusual antics.
Now, speaking to DAZN after the face-off for his next fight, the former WBC Interim lightweight champion thinks he could have beaten Davis if he’d have weighed more.
“If I was 140lbs, ‘Tank’ would have got knocked out and ‘Tank’ knows that, you know how scared he looked in the second round when I hit him. I swear I never seen anyone look more scared in my life. He was running, he was terrified. He said if he dropped me like Luke Campbell he would go after my ass and when he dropped me he did nothing.”
