Ryan Garcia continues to get at Devin Haney in build-up to mega-fight
As fight night approaches, the back-and-forth between WBC super-lightweight champion Devin Haney and challenger Ryan Garcia is showing no signs of slowing down. Following their respective media workouts, ‘King Ry’ seemed even more confident, as he took yet another dig at the unbeaten champion.
Garcia will challenge for world honours for the first time in his career when he takes on Haney, but the pair will have pride on the line as well as the coveted belt, with their continuous feud that dates back to their days in the amateurs meaning bragging rights are also up for grabs.
During the build-up, Garcia’s concerning behaviour has led to rumours that he could pull out of the contest but he now seems fully focussed and determined to silence his doubters, as he hopes to do better than he did in his last pay-per-view clash against Gervonta Davis, the lone blemish on his professional record.
In a clip captured by DAZN Boxing, Garcia slandered Devin Haney’s punch power after watching ‘The Dream’ do his open workout, offering to prove that he could train a 12-year-old to punch harder.
“Man, I watched Devin Haney’s media workout, that s**t was weak. Y’all were hyping that up bro, when he was hitting the body thing – I swear I could teach a 12-year-old kid to hit harder, I’m not even capping either. You bring me a 12-year-old kid, I am going to make him hit way sharper than Devin Haney, that s**t was soft.
“Hype him up, it’s all good. I’m going to put that mother****er down, watch. I’m definitely going to put him down.”
Haney has gone the distance in his last nine fights, but has proved his punch power against Antonio Moran in the past, where he secured a knockout of the year contender. A stoppage win for either man would be a statement, as Haney plans to climb the pound-for-pound rankings and Garcia aims for super-lightweight gold.
