Ryan Garcia has visualised fighting 6′ 5″ super-welterweight star
Fresh off the back off his hugely impressive win over Devin Haney at the weekend, uncrowned super lightweight king Ryan Garcia has immediately set his sights on his next challenge and named the super-welterweight fighter he would like to face next.
Although Garcia beat Haney on the cards, flooring him three times on the way to victory, he did not have the famous WBC green and gold belt placed around his waist at the final bell on account of having weighed in over 3lbs over the official limit for the fight, which is all the more ironic given he was sipping on a beer while standing on the scales on Friday.
It looks like Garcia now has many options. Some fans would like to see a rematch with both men making weight and the winner legitimately taking a title, while he has already been on social media speaking about other potential fights.
At the press conference at the Barclays Centre following the fight, however, he named a rather ambitious fight with a current world champion two divisions above his own, and that is Sebastian Fundora.
“I had a vision to fight Fundora at 154lbs. I don’t know why, I just feel like I could knock him out. I know that’s really, really random, but I just feel like I could get a title at 154.
“I’ve fought guys that big before and I’ve knocked them out in sparring, cold, slept them. So I want to do it. Shout out Fundora though, no disrespect.”
In his last fight, Fundora overcame Tim Tszyu to become the WBC and WBO super welterweight champion, but has already verbally agreed to a rematch with the Australian so it is unlikely this fight would be next.
