Ryan Garcia is just days away from making a dramatic return to the ring
Ryan Garcia is set to challenge Devin Haney for the WBC super lightweight world title this Saturday, April 20, in New York.
Defending champion Haney is the heavy favourite ahead of the showdown, however, WBC #6 ‘King Ry’ has been the talk of the town of late after some dramatic and concerning social media posts.
The fight first looked in jeopardy after the New York State Athletic Commission stated they wanted the 25-year-old to undergo a mental well-being evaluation prior to the bout. He has since revealed that he has passed all tests and evaluations, being given the all-clear ahead of Saturday.
Despite being given the green light, fans are still concerned for the young fighter’s safety, as he continues to post controversial content on his social media.
Addressing the concerns, the Californian assures that he is more than prepared for the upcoming showdown.
“You guys don’t know, this type of motivation, all the s**t I’ve seen, been through. Yeah, I’m a little f**king mental, but I’m ready to destroy motherf**kers,” Ryan Garcia told Boxing Social.
“Y’all weren’t talking s**t about Mike Tyson when he was like this. Y’all respect him now, right? Ok then, so you gonna respect me. I’ve seen some s**t I should have never seen, but I’m a killer now.”
The 25-year-old former WBC Interim lightweight champion went on to shut down the rumours surrounding a substance abuse issue.
“I haven’t tested positive for one drug, that’s all I’ve gotta say.”
2017 ESPN Prospect of the Year, Ryan Garcia last laced up against Oscar Duarte Jurado, boxing well and stopping his once-beaten man in the eighth round.
Prior to his last outing, the prospect was stopped in his tracks by Gervonta Davis, being knocked down in the second round before a devastating body blow ended Garcia’s night early.
Garcia vs Haney will be available on DAZN PPV for UK viewers, with the undercard set to kick off at 1 am on Sunday morning.
