Devin Haney vs Ryan Garcia surprisingly takes place in New York
It was revealed last week that Ryan Garcia’s fight with Devin Haney will be in New York and not Las Vegas and now the Californian has revealed his frustrations.
‘King Ry’ has in no uncertain terms expressed his dissatisfaction at the location of the fight in which he will challenge multi-weight belt holder and current WBC super-lightweight champion Haney at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on April 20, live on DAZN PPV.
He has not yet won a world title of his own and when he stepped up to challenge for the WBA belt last April it was against Gervonta Davis who stopped him in the seventh round with a brutal body shot.
He has now taken to social media to make his point about the location of this second world title shot.
“This is a MGM Vegas fight, doing everything we can to bring this to Vegas and giving this fight what it deserves!!!
“This decision has nothing to do with NYC, but everything to do with business and what I believe is the best move for my career.”
Rival Haney soon hit back and claimed his opponent was looking for a way out of the fight, but Garcia came back with a quick retort.
“Why are you trying to paint that picture to the public, towards the guy who is making you more money in your life and in your entire career- Sad to see. That is real hoe behavior which you learned from your dad so I can’t blame you.”
Devin ‘The Dream’ Haney is in fine form right now – having cleaned up all the belts in the division below, he stepped up to super-lightweight last time out and took a great win over Regis Prograis to become a world champion in a new weight class.
This week the pair head out on a press tour to promote the much anticipated fight.
