Ryan Garcia check weight disclosed ahead of Devin Haney grudge match
Having encountered weight-related challenges in previous bouts, Ryan Garcia is seemingly doing better this time around ahead of his fight with Devin Haney as his current weight has been revealed to be on target.
11 days away from his highly anticipated showdown with Devin Haney, the challenger’s weight status has been disclosed while the fighter himself continues to build the animosity between the two.
Following his knockout victory over Javier Fortuna in July 2022 at super-lightweight, ‘King Ry’ asserted his decision to avoid the 135lbs limit in the future. However, in his subsequent fight against Gervonta Davis, he agreed to a catchweight of 136lbs, just one pound above the lightweight threshold.
Now, at 25 years old, the Californian has the opportunity to showcase his skills in the super-lightweight division as he vies for world honours against his former amateur rival Haney for the WBC super-lightweight title.
With the fight approaching, WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman has assured that young Ryan is on track to meet the weight requirement, currently weighing in at 146.5lbs in a new post on X.
“Have received @RyanGarcia 14-day weigh-in and is well within the range. We are just 12 days away from one of the biggest fights in recent years #HaneyGarcia at @barclayscenter in #NewYork @GoldenBoyBoxing @Realdevinhaney @DAZNBoxing.”
This bout marks Garcia’s debut under the tutelage of newly-appointed trainer Derrick James, which may go some way to explain why his weight management has been better for this fight.
