Ryan Bourland breaks down in emotional interview ahead of Jake Paul fight
Upcoming Jake Paul (8-1, 5KO) opponent, Ryan Bourland (17-2, 6KO), has looked ahead to what is comfortably the most high-profile bout he is ever going to take part in, with the magnitude of the opportunity sinking in and making him emotional ahead of fight night.
27-year-old cruiserweight Jake Paul bounced back from a first professional loss to Tommy Fury with wins over Nate Diaz and Andre August in the second half of 2023.
Now, ‘The Problem Child’ is taking on Bourland, a Golden Gloves winner as an amateur who has been defeated just twice in his 19-fight long career, but has fought just once since 2018.
In an interview with KX News, Bourland showed his gratitude for the chance to shine on the big stage and assured fans that he is taking the fight very seriously, despite Paul’s unconventional route into the sport.
“This is it, man. This is a huge opportunity for me to show my skills and who I am in front of the whole world because the whole world will be watching. It’s a huge opportunity and I’m happy to get it and I’m taking it really, really serious.”
“It means a lot, to have everybody here with you. It just feels good knowing that people have got your back.”
“I think that a lot of people like watching me fight because I make it like a fight. It’s never really a boring fight when I fight, I am always in shape and I am always ready to fight.”
Paul-Bourland will take place on the undercard of Amanda Serrano’s (46-2-1) undisputed featherweight title defence against Nina Meinke (18-3) in Puerto Rico, which also features a light-flyweight WBO world title contest between Jonathan Gonzalez (27-3-1) and Rene Santiago (12-3) and is available to watch live on DAZN.
