Royston Barney-Smith vs Reece Bellotti ended with Barney-Smith keeping his unbeaten record intact at the 3Arena on Saturday, comfortably outboxing Bellotti over ten rounds.
The judges returned scores of 98-92, 100-90 and 99-91 — a shutout on one card — as Barney-Smith moved to 17-0 (8 KOs) and picked up the vacant IBO Intercontinental super-featherweight title. Bellotti drops to 20-8 (15 KOs).
It was a measured night’s work on a card that produced far louder moments elsewhere. Bellotti has never been an easy night for anyone, and his experience made this a useful ten-round outing for a fighter who has spent much of his career finishing opponents early.
The win extends a busy year for the Watford man and strengthens his position in a domestic super-featherweight picture that is starting to look congested.
Barney-Smith’s victory came on the undercard of Mark Chamberlain’s tenth-round stoppage of Pierce O’Leary, with Steven Cairns and Ben Fail also winning inside the distance on the Queensberry bill.
