Roy Jones Jr believes it’ll be harder for Tyson Fury against a confident Oleksandr Usyk after his last under par performance
Betway spoke with Roy Jones Jr, who previewed the upcoming heavyweight showdown between heavyweights Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk, taking place on May 18 for all the marbles.
WBC ruler Fury will put his green and gold on the line against Usyk’s WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO belts in the first undisputed heavyweight fight this century.
The former four-weight world champion shared his views on the history-making heavyweight fight, “Here’s the thing that people don’t seem to realise, Tyson Fury fights to the level of his opposition. He didn’t feel threatened by Francis Ngannou because he didn’t go out there, get in shape and get mentally prepared to where he felt threatened by Francis Ngannou.
“But people didn’t see Francis Ngannou as a threat because he isn’t a boxer, and especially not for 10 rounds. He knows Oleksandr Usyk is a threat and he’s going to fight Usyk totally different to how he fought Ngannou.
“But because of Francis Ngannou, Oleksandr Usyk will have a lot more confidence now. My prediction before that fight was that Tyson Fury would win but it’s going to be a lot tougher now because of the fact of the last fight.
“Fury knew Francis Ngannou was a type of guy he wasn’t supposed to struggle with but I have to go with Tyson Fury.
“You’ve got to go back in history, but he will rank pretty high because nobody has beaten Oleksandr Usyk yet, and if he does, he is going to be remembered highly.”
