Rolly Romero discusses next bout with the “Pitbull” Isaac Cruz
WBA World super lightweight champion Rolando Romero (15-1, 13KO) has promised to be the first man to halt Mexican “Pitbull” Isaac Cruz (25-2-1, 17KO) inside the distance when the two meet on March 30.
Speaking at the pre-fight press conference, as reported by Boxing Scene, Romero – who is training under the guidance of respected coach Ismael Salas – was in a buoyant mood.
“He’s not that unique. I fight guys like him all the time. This has probably been the easiest time I’ve ever had finding sparring in my life. He can be replicated; I can’t. My style goes hand in hand with my personality – it’s unique.”
The Las Vegas resident went on to say that Cruz’s all action, come-forward style will be perfectly suited to his own approach.
“If you want to come right at me and get cracked, go for it. He can do all that stuff with the small guys he fights, but I’m a big fighter and I hit harder than anyone at the weight class. I’m always here to go for the knockout and to go for the kill. I’m not here to just touch you – I want to pop you.”
Then came the big promise of a knockout, “I’m gonna knock him out. He’s gonna come forward and I’m gonna stop him. He gets hit with everything, so it could be any kind of punch.”
This is Romero’s first contest since winning a super lightweight title when he stopped Ismael Barroso last May, and it co-features with the main event on Amazon Prime that will see Tim Tszyu take on Keith Thurman’s replacement Sebastian Fundora.
