Richardson Hitchins decisions Gustavo Lemos unanimously
Richardson Hitchins (18-0, 7KO) remained unbeaten last night, April 6, with a close unanimous decision win over Gustavo Daniel Lemos (29-1, 19KO) in Las Vegas.
The 26-year-old New Yorker was victorious in the IBF super lightweight final eliminator match with scores of 117-111 and 115-113 twice.
The close contest saw two very different fighters with completely contrasting game plans.
The skilful Hitchins opted to use his jab at long range to keep his Argentine opponent at bay, whilst looking for any openings to land a power punch.
“El Electrico” Lemos, on the other had, was desperate to turn the bout into a dogfight and came out swinging from the opening bell
A number of big right hands from the Argentinian rocked his man throughout the 12 rounds forcing the American to clinch often.
But while Lemos continued with his aggressive approach, the disciplined Hitchins remained focused and controlled to convince all three judges at ringside, with two scoring the contest accordingly, but one returned a rather lopsided view of 117-111, which wasn’t a true reflection of the fantastic fight.
The Brooklyn boxer has already stated his intentions on challenging IBF king Subriel Matias next.
