Queensberry add a pair of U.S. prospects to their roster
Hall of Fame promoter, Frank Warren, today unveiled a duo of undefeated rising stars just signed to his talent-laden team.
Former IBO Inter-Continental titlist Brandun Lee, 25 from California, and amateur champion Nathan Lugo, a 20-year-old prodigy who won his pro debut in 93 seconds.
Brandun Lee
Outstanding super-lightweight contender Brandun Lee (28-0, 23KO) has signed promotional terms with Frank Warren and the undefeated Californian will now fight under the Queensberry banner.
The 25-year-old from La Quinta, who entered into his first fight at the age of 8, enjoyed a storied career in the amateurs, where he compiled a record of 181-9.
Lee triumphed on four occasions in the Junior Golden Gloves Championship, three times in the Junior Silver Gloves and enjoyed five successes in the Junior PAL.
On turning professional in 2017 at the age of 17, while remaining a High School student, Lee marked the occasion with a first round stoppage in Philadelphia over Christopher Johnson.
His stoppage tally now stands at 23 from his 28 wins in the professional ranks, in which he is trained by his father Bobby.
In March of 2021, Lee won the IBO Intercontinental title via a third round stoppage of Samuel Teah and can now look forward to being thrust into major championship contention by his new Hall of Fame promoter.
“I am thrilled to have signed with Queensberry Promotions,” said Lee. “July 27th will be the first time I fight overseas professionally and I’m extremely grateful. I’m looking to start a wonderful new campaign with the Warrens and Queensberry as a whole this summer. I know they will provide me with great opportunities in the future. My team is now complete and I’m ready for war.”
“I’ve followed Brandun since the youth amateurs,” revealed manager David McWater. “He has always had the potential to be not just great American talent, but a worldwide star. Queensberry Promotions are the best at doing just that. Developing star fighters from all over the world.
“In Brandun, Queensberry now represents a boxer that is still only 25 years young, but at same time, might only be a couple fights away from a world title opportunity. Something I know we will all work towards in short order. Special thanks to George Warren who has been great through the process. A true gentleman.”
Promoter Frank Warren added: “Brandun is an exceptional talent in the super lightweight division, who will now the given the platform to showcase himself and perform in the big fights and occasions that his talent deserves.
“His record so far speaks for itself and his pedigree is obvious, so we will now provide him with every opportunity and position him for major title challenges, which I am certain he will capitalise on.
“I am looking forward to working in tandem with Brandun and his team towards a highly successful future.”
Nathan ‘Brickbuster’ Lugo
Former USA amateur star Nathan Lugo (1-0, 1KO) has signed a promotional agreement with Frank Warren and Queensberry, having entered the professional ranks with a first round stoppage in April.
The super middleweight made his pro debut in Atlanta and the experience against previously unbeaten fellow novice Robert Lartigue lasted a matter of just 93 seconds, with Lugo twice putting his countryman to the canvas.
Knockouts featured strongly in the amateur career of the 19-year-old, known as Brickbuster, who inflicted over 40 stoppages in amassing a record of 223-19.
During this time he became National Amateur champion on an incredible 23 occasions, as well as winning multiple international gold medals.
In 2022, by winning the Elite National title, Lugo became the youngest ever fighter ever to qualify for Olympic trials.
“I feel very honoured coming straight out of the amateurs and immediately stepping into a powerhouse promotional company such as Queensberry,” reacted Nathan to his recruitment to the team of Frank Warren. “It has a very rich and amazing history within the sport and promotes the careers of today’s best boxers. I know with their guidance and leadership I will make history.”
“To have Nathan under the Queensberry banner and representing his family is an absolute honour,” considered his coach and father Mike Lugo. “One that very few will ever get to have. Trust that we will make them proud. With the types of high end platforms and opportunities Queensberry provides boxers within their stable, it is only a matter of time before the name Lugo is known around the world.”
“It is a true pleasure to be able to bring the highest level American amateur talent directly to a worldwide industry leader in Queensberry Promotions,” commented manager David McWater. “Their ability to recognise and guide the top tier boxers is well documented over the course of several decades. Today, Queensberry is second to none with regards to strength within the sport. I couldn’t be happier they are bringing Nathan aboard.”
Hall of Fame promoter Frank Warren added: “In Nathan we have clearly got a serious talent on our hands, as evidenced by his amateur pedigree. This signing, albeit one from the USA, follows in a familiar and successful pattern for Queensberry. Taking a top young fighter, almost from scratch, and hopefully guiding him correctly towards significant title triumphs.
“Nathan is such an exciting prospect and I cannot wait to get him started and give him the opportunity to shine across multiple territories. I am also looking forward to working with David McWater and his father and coach Mike as we seek to maximise Nathan’s prospects and deliver for him.”
