Oscar De La Hoya hints at one of his young fighters featuring on July’s Netflix card
The highly anticipated Netflix card will see Jake Paul and Mike Tyson lock horns in an exhibition bout on July 20 in Texas.
Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano will co-headline the event. Serrano will be prepping for revenge over her Irish rival, after losing a thrilling 10-rounder in 2022.The card will prove as Netflix’s first venture into the world of professional boxing, and they appear to be entering the sport all guns blazing, cultivating what will no doubt be an intriguing night in Austin.
Former world champion and promoter Oscar De La Hoya has revealed that one of his young prospects may have the opportunity to feature on the card.
“They are also talking to us about putting one of my kids on the card, two undefeated fighters, Kid Austin,” Golden Boy revealed to Ariel Helwani.
Floyd ‘Kid Austin’ Schofield is 17-0 as a pro. His last outing in March ended in bizarre fashion after his opponent, Esteuri Suero, was disqualified in the fifth. Suero was deducted a point for fouls in rounds two and four before a low blow in round five forced the referee to step in and disqualify the Dominican fighter.
Schofield is currently ranked as the WBA #3 at lightweight. It is unclear who he will be fighting if he does appear on the July card, however, a win could put him in prime position for a title charge in the final quarter of 2024.
Looking back at the upcoming event, De La Hoya felt the criticism towards Paul is unwarranted.
“I strongly feel that what Jake Paul is doing, and Mike Tyson as well, I mean they are brilliant, they’re geniuses. It’s all good for the sport.”
