Lawrence Okolie crowned WBC bridgerweight champion in Poland
Londoner Lawrence Okolie won the WBC world bridgerweight title against Lukasz Rozanski on Friday, May 24 at the Podpromie Arena in Rzeszow, Poland, on a card presented by Knockout Promotions in association with BOXXER, broadcast on Sky Sports and ESPN KNOCKOUT.
Former WBO cruiserweight champion Okolie came out more aggressive from the first bell, using his greater reach and height, and showing that he also has fearsome punching power.
Unbeaten defending champion Rosanzki visited the canvas three times in the first round before referee Daniel Van de Wiele decided to stop the fight at 2:55.
A counter right hand over the top first dropped the champion just before the last minute of the opener. Then he was backed up to the ropes on shaky legs and floored again. The challenger went in for the kill, landed two big straight rights set up both times by the jab, then he changed angles to bring the right hand up into a kind of right hook-uppercut shot, which is went he went down for the final time.
A former British, Commonwealth, European and WBO cruiserweight champion, Okolie is now a two-division champion having captured the WBC Bridger title.
