Moses Itauma could fight for a title next
Teenage prodigy Moses Itauma (8-0, 6KO) is preparing for his ninth pro fight on May 18 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Promoter Frank Warren confirmed he will fight for a second time this year on the Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk undercard, and also alluded to his heavyweight charge possibly even managing a warm-up fight inbetween.
“We’re going to try and get out again as quickly as possible, but Moses will be on the May 18 card in Saudi and we’re pushing for a title fight on there,” Frank Warren revealed following his fighter’s win last Friday.
The teenage sensation scored his sixth first-round knockout on March 22 at the York Hall. The 19-year-old stopped ‘The Reaper Man’ Dan Garber (6-2, 2KO) with just 38 seconds remaining of the opener.
The youngster from Kent, forced his southpaw opponent into the corner before unloading a brutal body shot, followed by a right hook upstairs. He continued to unload a flurry of shots before the fight was halted by referee Mark Bates with just under a minute still left to go in the first.
A consummate professional, Chatham’s Itauma believed he could’ve stopped the fight sooner, if he wanted to.
“It was good getting back in the ring and I could have got him out of there earlier,” he stated straight after the contest.
“I trained for a longer fight so I would have fancied three or four rounds.
“I don’t enjoy the training but I like the fights, I can get used to this.”
The Chatham combatant has been touted as the future of the heavyweight division by stablemate and WBC ruler, Tyson Fury, who have recently sparred together.
Speaking to TalkSPORT, Itauma revealed some key advice he was given by ‘The Gypsy King’.
“To be honest, the way he is on the cameras and that, and the way he is in real life is definitely not the same person.
“Inside the ring, outside the ring, some of those things I’m not going to say. He definitely did say, ‘You need to get a good balance.’
“It’s like when you want things to happen, it don’t happen; you can’t just work, work, work, work. You have to enjoy what you’ve worked [for].”
