Moses Itauma discloses life advice received from ‘The Gypsy King’
19-year-old Moses Itauma (8-0, 6KO) has been touted as Britain’s next heavyweight superstar, the undefeated teenager recently moved to eight bouts unbeaten after his sixth first-round stoppage, this time over ‘The Reaper Man’ Dan Garber (6-2, 2KO).
The youngster from Kent, forced his southpaw opponent into the corner before unloading a brutal body shot, followed by a right hook upstairs. He continued to unload a flurry of shots before the fight was halted by referee Mark Bates with just under a minute still left to go in the first.
Seemingly a perfectionist, Chatham’s Moses Itauma revealed that he could’ve stopped the fight sooner, if he wanted to.
“It was good getting back in the ring and I could have got him out of there earlier,” he stated straight after the contest.
“I trained for a longer fight so I would have fancied three or four rounds.
“I don’t enjoy the training but I like the fights, I can get used to this.”
It’s not only the fans who have been rating the young prospect highly; WBC champion Tyson Fury recently shared the ring with Itauma in sparring and has branded him the ‘future of the division’
Speaking to TalkSPORT, the teenager revealed some key advice he was given by ‘The Gypsy King’.“To be honest, the way he is on the cameras and that, and the way he is in real life is definitely not the same person.
“Inside the ring, outside the ring, some of those things I’m not going to say. He definitely did say, ‘You need to get a good balance.’
“It’s like when you want things to happen, it don’t happen; you can’t just work, work, work, work. You have to enjoy what you’ve worked [for].”
The undefeated talent looks likely to make his return to the ring on May 18, appearing on the undercard of the highly anticipated undisputed showdown between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.
“We’re going to try and get out again as quickly as possible but Moses will be on the May 18 card in Saudi and we’re pushing for a title fight on there,” Frank Warren revealed following his fighter’s win last Friday.
