Middleweight world champion Daniel Jacobs set for dramatic ring return
Danny Jacobs (37-4, 30 KOs) reveals that his ring return is set for this summer, expressing a desire to fight in Saudi Arabia and become a two-time world champion.
The 37-year-old exciting fighter held the IBF world middleweight title over five years ago, before he lost it in a back-and-forth affair with Mexican megastar Canelo Alvarez back in 2019, where ‘The Miracle Man’ came on strong late in the contest.
The 41-bouter then called it quits on his career following a split-decision defeat to British super middleweight John Ryder, but now looks to garner excitement around his return, known and respected for his exceptional punching power, with an 82.8% knockout-to-win ratio.
On IFL TV, New Yorker Jacobs said: “I wish I could get the chance to go to Saudi Arabia and experience what some of my peers have told me has been some of the best boxing shows that they could possibly put on.
“I want to be able to feel that, but also just to make my return and be able to have an opportunity to fight somewhere different, where new boxing fans can be breaded.
“We’ve been training for the last few months now, and we’re looking for either early or mid-June [to fight].
“The contract hasn’t been officially signed yet so I can’t talk too much details, but you can definitely look forward to seeing me back.”
In 2011, the Brooklyn boxer became known as the ‘Miracle Man’ after he overcame a rare form of bone cancer and resumed his professional boxing career before, inspirationally, he went the extra mile to win the WBA world middleweight title in 2014.
Jacobs went on to beat the likes of Caleb Truax and Sergio Mora before he met Gennady Golovkin in 2017 when, while losing on points, he was able to halt the fearsome Kazakh’s destructive run of stoppages.
After that defeat, Jacobs formed a relationship with Matchroom Boxing boss Eddie Hearn, but has not confirmed whether he will reignite their business bond.
