Mick Hennessy responds to Eddie Hearn’s comments
Eddie Hearn is caught up in yet another dispute with one of his promotional rivals, and this time it is Mick Hennessy who is firing shots at the Matchroom chief.
The issue is around the fact that Isaac Chamberlain was due to fight his rival Chev Clarke for the British cruiserweight title and a purse bid was called, however last minute changes to the champion’s plans meant he pulled out of negotiations with just an hour to go.
IC also vacated the Lonsdale belt after given many weeks to decide what to do, which is what has left Hearn so unhappy and accusing Chamberlain of ‘ducking’ Clarke.
Managed by Hennessy, Chamberlain’s decision comes as he has been mandated to challenge Michal Cieslak for the European cruiserweight title, which he intends to pursue next.
With a record of 16-2-0, Chamberlain has asserted his position as the mandatory challenger for Michal Cieslak’s EBU European title. Consequently, he had no choice but to vacate his British belt, much to the dismay of promoter Hearn.
Hennessy has responded to Hearn’s ire in a new message posted on X:
“Spreading misinformation doesn’t help, Eddie. This has nothing to do with @benjshalom or @boxxer. This is totally my decision. It was either give up the British Title or give up the European Title opportunity (as my courtesy call to your office this morning, before we relinquished, explained) And since @IChamberlain_ hasn’t won the European Title before, we chose this – Mick Hennessy.”
Clarke will now have to find another opponent to contest the vacant British title.
