Michael Hunter vs Cassius Chaney
Michael Hunter (22-1-2, 16KO) has been handed a shot at redemption against Cassius Chaney (23-1, 16KO) on June 7 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, Hollywood, on a Don King event.
The once-beaten heavyweights will provide chief support to the WBC World cruiserweight contest between Noel Mikaeljan and Ryan Rozicki.
Both boxers have a similar number of bouts, just one loss each, and the same amount of KOs on their respectable records.
Promising heavyweight prospect Michael Hunter has quietly bounced back from a draw with the tough Jerry Forrest in December 2021, to score two knockouts within six months, in September last year and March this year, both bouts taking place in Mexico.
Now 35, ‘The Bounty Hunter’ was widely considered as a high-risk-low-reward opponent, causing the contender incredible difficulty to secure fights.
It was an upset stoppage win over Martin Bakole in London in October 2018 that caused Hunter’s career to stutter. The Californian was still active, but was unable to secure the big fights he wanted.
Baltimore-born Chaney, too, has bounced back with two straight wins, since tasting defeat for the one and only time to 16-0 George Arias in December 2021 in New York.
A credible win over former WBA Regular heavyweight champion Trevor Bryan last November was the catalyst for the 36-year-old to land the Interim title shot.
