Michael Hunter reignites rivalry with Martin Bakole
Michael Hunter and Martin Bakole have a long rivalry that has now been stoked up once more ahead of a potential rematch as the American declares that ‘he’s soft on the inside.’
In an entertaining heavyweight encounter way back in 2018, former cruiserweight world title challenger Hunter put on an effective performance and managed to, against the odds, stop the towering prospect Bakole in the 10th and final round of their battle at the York Hall in London.
Since then, the Congo-born heavyweight Bakole has rebuilt well and secured some solid wins, including most recently over Carlos Takam. Hunter however has been largely inactive, though very vocal on social media.
He has been talking again this week with the aim of stoking their rivalry and getting himself a rematch with Bakole.
Speaking to IFL TV, Hunter declared that the pair need to fight again before Bakole can really continue with his career.
“My name is going to keep coming around him, because as long as he keeps doing good they want him to avenge his loss and see if he’s the truth.
“All these other fighters he keeps beating they have good names but are they real, are they legit fighters? The only way for Martin Bakole to rein successful he’s got to at least put up a good fight.
“He hasn’t even got to win. Just put up a good fight and don’t get stopped this time, and that will be a win in itself. He’s just got to stay on his feet.
“Martin Bakole, he’s really hard on the outside but really soft on the inside so once you crack that hard outer shell it’s a done deal, but it ain’t an easy task to crack that shell.”
