Matchroom are looking to make Rolly Romero vs Conor Benn fight
Matchroom Boxing are looking to prioritise a WBA world title shot for Conor Benn (24-1, 14 KOs) against the reigning welterweight champion Rolando Romero (17-2, 13 KOs).
Frank Smith confirmed, “Shakhram [Giyasov] wants to win the world title, but at the same time he’s sensible. So that’s something we will talk through and I think we’ll be able to make the fight between Conor Benn and Rolly Romero.”
Giyasov is the WBA mandatory, who is also managed by Matchroom, like Benn.
29-year-old Benn had a rollercoaster 2025, where he had to deal with his first defeat to Chris Eubank Jr., scored at 115-112 on all three scorecards, but seven months later he got his revenge with a one-sided victory where he knocked the weight-drained middleweight down twice in the final round.
Rolly Romero, 30 from Las Vegas, is three-weight world champion, having held WBA world titles at lightweight, super-lightweight and welterweight.
Benn is a big name on both sides of the pond, so the venue could be located in either the UK or the U.S., but England would be the preferred place for the Essex boxer, where he has filled a football stadium twice in a row.
