Matchroom Boxing and Chantelle Cameron part ways amicably
Matchroom Boxing boss Eddie Hearn has parted ways with former undisputed champion Chantelle Cameron (18-1, 8 KOs) after reaching an agreement to end their promotional deal.
On Wednesday, Matchroom Boxing took to social media, announcing that they will no longer be working with Cameron following her majority decision defeat to Katie Taylor back in November last year.
On X, they said: “Matchroom Boxing can today confirm that we reached an agreement last month to release Chantelle Cameron from her promotional deal.
“We would like to wish Chantelle all the best in her future endeavours.”
While the split seems amicable, it is a strange departure considering demands for a showdown between Cameron and WBO world welterweight champion Sandy Ryan.
The pair engaged in a back and fourth on social media several weeks ago, teasing fans who have been eagerly awaiting the potential domestic dustup.
However, it seems that both their careers may move in different directions, with Cameron no longer fighting on DAZN.
Before the announcement of a rematch between Taylor and Amanda Serrano – which takes place on the undercard of Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson on July 20 – Cameron was clambering for a trilogy fight with her Irish rival.
Their clash took place at the 3Arena, Dublin, where Taylor – one of the sport’s most decorated fighters – found herself on the end of a shock defeat.
Cameron, who has spent the majority of her professional career under the tutelage of Jamie Moore, has now joined the likes of Sunny Edwards and Dalton Smith in the stable of Sheffield-based trainer Grant Smith.
With this fresh start, both in a promotional and coaching sense, she will no doubt be looking to become a two-time world champion.
