Matchroom announce that Prizefighter will be postponed
Matchroom Boxing has had to announce the postponement of the relaunch of their famous Prizefighter tournament in Japan.
Prizefighter was a much-loved tournament-style night of boxing that Matchroom hosted several years ago and helped to launch the careers of Rocky Fielding, Gavin Rees, Jono Carroll and Terry Flanagan. It used to see fighters battle it out for three three-minute rounds with quarters, semis and the final all on the same night.
The first tournament was set to be middleweight with Brits Kieron Conway and Mark Dickinson and Irishman Aaron McKenna all fighting for the ultimate prize of a world title.
However a new messaged posted on X by Matchroonm has put the breaks on things for now.
“Matchroom can today confirm due to operational issues outside of our control the Prize Fighter quarter-finals are postponed. Further Details will follow in due course.”
This will be a big blow to those set to take part with the finals originally scheduled to take place on March 31st.
