Teofimo Lopez Sr hits back at those stating Jamaine Ortiz should’ve beaten his son in Las Vegas last week
Teofimo Lopez defended his WBO Super-Lightweight title against Ortiz in a lacklustre affair, with many considering him fortunate to leave the Michelob Ultra Arena as world champion.
With the scorecards reading 117-111 and 115-113(x2) in the champion’s favour, it sparked debate on whether that was the correct result, with it split between people claiming Ortiz was robbed, or that Ortiz ran from ‘The Takeover’ all night, the latter Lopez eluded to immediately after the fight.

In an interview with Fighthub TV, Lopez Sr sounded off on the critics stating that his son won nearly every round.
“I thought the 117-111 was alright man, but I had him winning nearly every round bro,
“It’s crazy man, like if you want to box, I understand that, but you gotta let your hands go, and box in-and-out, just like Floyd [Mayweather] used too.
“This guy just came, literally just running man, without letting his hands go, because he knew that if he tried to touch him, tried to box him, he would’ve got countered.
“He never came for it, we had more punches than him, he was missing everything, he sometimes threw, but we’re happy with the win.
“Hopefully we get a better dancing partner next time.
“This was ridiculous, they should get rid of people in boxing like this.”
It is unknown who Lopez will go on to fight from here, with all potential unification bouts at 140lbs tied up with WBC Champion Devin Haney facing Ryan Garcia on April 20th, WBA champion Rolly Romero facing Isaac Cruz on March 30th, and IBF champion Subriel Matias looking set to face Liam Paro in Puerto Rico.
Lopez did have a run-in with Top Rank prospect Keyshawn Davis following his victory, so that could materialise to be ‘The Takeover’s’ next bout.
