Liam Smith sees through all the Crawford-Eubank talk
Liam Smith is the latest fighter to react to the news that Terence Crawford and Chris Eubank Jr could be in negotiations for a fight sometime this year.
Smith’s last two contests came against Eubank Jr back in 2023. He won the first one with a surprise knockout over Eubank Jr who had barely been hurt before let alone stopped. The reverse fight just a few months later saw the opposite result – Eubank Jr put on one of his career-best performances and stopped former middleweight world champion Smith to get revenge and set him up for some big future fights.
One rumoured opponent is Crawford, the two-weight undisputed champion who hasn’t fought since his superb victory over Errol Spence Jr last summer.
Now, Smith has been asked about how he sees a fight going between the two. Speaking to Seconds Out boxing, he gave his dim view of the fight, “Fake news a load of shite. Look at me in the past, I’ve had phone calls, a huge name in Britain started calling me out.
“I think [Eubank and Crawford] have been in the same gym. Crawford was on FaceTime to him the day [Eubank] fought me and he’s probably said while the Conor Benn fight has fallen through, you’re not fighting at the moment, call me out, it’ll drum up a bit of publicity about you, it’ll keep your name relevant.
“I think that’s what Crawford and BoMac have said to Chris. I don’t think the fight is going to happen so I’ve not got too much comment on it, but if it does happen I think Crawford wins every day of the week.”
