Lawrence Okolie wants to fight fellow Brit
Lawrence Okolie has his hands full with a Bridgerweight world title fight on the horizon but is already looking ahead and calling out a huge heavyweight name for what would be an epic all-British showdown.
After a period of quiet for Okolie, things have got busy of late. He is finally back in the game after losing his WBO cruiserweight world title to Chris Billam-Smith at the Vitality Stadium in Bournemouth last year, and will now be fighting up at the new division for a WBC title against Lukasz Rozanski out in Poland on Friday May 24 live on Sky Sports.
He also recently announced that he has linked up with former Trainer of the Year Joe Gallagher for this camp and has now spoken to Sky Sports about Dillian Whyte being on his radar.
“Dillian Whyte’s now back. Obviously, everyone knows from back when I was Commonwealth and British champion I wanted that fight so that’s definitely one on my radar. Outside of that we’ll see what the landscape looks like. I’ve been looking at the heavyweights and seeing how much fun they’ve been having up there. I want to have a go as well.”
Okolie has plenty of experience sparring some of the best heavyweights on the planet such as Tyson Fury, Joseph Parker, Anthony Joshua and Joe Joyce so knows what he will be getting himself into should he move up in weight again in the future.
First up, however, he attempts to become a two-weight world champion in May.
