Lauren Price looking for dream homecoming fight with world titles on the line
Olympic gold medallist Lauren Price (6-0, 1 KO) looks to stage a world title showdown in Cardiff, as a potential clash with unified welterweight champion Jessica McCaskill (12-3, 5 KOs) is touted for April 20.
Since her professional debut in 2022, the 29-year-old has expressed a desire to feature on a homecoming show, which is something her promoter, Ben Shalom, now hopes to deliver.
Daily Star Journalist Chris McKenna reports that Newport’s Price will not only challenge for world honours, but face one of the biggest names in the sport.
On X, he said: “Jessica McCaskill v Lauren Price in the works for April 20 in Cardiff. Would be a unified title fight if all gets signed off.”
Ring Magazine journalist Jake Donovan then added: “ [I have been] told that McCaskill will (likely) have to give up her WBC, barring any ruling that would forgive her not going through w/ ordered mandatory vs Ivana Habazin – which is currently scheduled for same date in Croatia. Ring/WBA titles still in play.”
Since rounding off a successful amateur career – fulfilling her Olympic dreams in Tokyo – Price has remained somewhat untested as a professional.
She did, however, make history, becoming the first fighter to hold a British title in women’s boxing after comfortably outpointing Kirstie Bavington in May last year.
While Price has impressed thus far, with her blistering hand speed and dazzling footwork, she is now set to take on a proven world level operator.
McCaskill, 39, comes off a controversial draw to Briton Sandy Ryan back in September last year, when she retained her belts at 147 lbs and – following a questionable 97-93 scorecard from judge Mark Streisland – was thought to have come away from Orlando, Florida, with a gift of a decision.
Regardless, her experience as a pro cannot be disputed, with two wins over former undisputed queen Cecilia Braekhus and, at the early stage of her career, a defeat to Katie Taylor, with her next loss coming against Chantelle Cameron in a more competitive affair.
