‘Leeds Pocket Rocket’ Koby McNamara may be a bantamweight but he’s enjoying some heavyweight promotion ahead of his next fight
Koby McNamara’s name is going up in lights in the build-up to the Cannon Medical Arena event in Sheffield on September 27, as his image is now appearing on huge billboards at busy road junctions in the city.
It’s all part of a push to build the highly rated 24 year old’s profile as he works his way up the rankings.
Koby’s had just seven pro fights but already experts are predicting a bright future and the potential that he could follow Josh Warrington as Leeds’ next world champion.
“I’ve got lots of brilliant fans behind me and a fantastic team around me, all trying to make sure I get every chance possible to help me get to the top”, Koby said, “Now, I’ve got another chance to show everyone what I can do in the ring and hopefully the billboards will help ensure I’ve got as many people as possible backing me in Sheffield. It’s going to be mad to see a huge image of me appearing in these busy locations, I’m only a little bloke!”
Veteran sports broadcaster and current Leeds United commentator Bryn Law has been working with the team around Koby and with the boxer himself as he seeks to push his media presence.
“Koby’s a great lad and I’ve really enjoyed working with him,” Bryn said, “It’s given me some new challenges as well, I’ve never ordered a billboard ad before and I’ve had lots of help from some people who genuinely do know what they’re doing!”.
Poucher PR and The Ark Media, two Leeds based companies have been assisting and the people from Golden Team Gym, Koby’s base in Holbeck, are all looking forward to seeing the results.
The billboard ads went up on Saturday August 31st from sites at Pudsey and Gelderd Road, close to Elland Road – that’s important as Koby’s a big Leeds fan, as the billboard image will highlight.
Fans on their way to the home game against Hull were the first to see the local lad on the big screen, he’ll still be there when Leeds next play on September 13th.
