Kenan Hanjalic plans on causing an upset against Tommy Fury
Unbeaten cruiserweight Tommy Fury (10-0, 4 KOs) will face Bosnian boxer Kenan Hanjalic (4-1, 3 KOs) in his comeback fight on Friday, May 9 in Budapest, Hungary, live on DAZN.
The Brit is currently based in Budapest training for his ring return, which will see him take on a traditional pro boxer for the first time in three years.
‘TNT’ Tommy underwent hand surgery after his October 2023 win over KSI in Manchester, a bout which was not licensed by the British Boxing Board of Control. Prior to that, he fought YouTuber, Jake Paul, earlier in 2023.
The last time he competed against a traditional pro boxer was in April 2022 when he defeated Polish puncher Daniel Bocianski at Wembley Stadium on the undercard of his brother Tyson’s WBC world heavyweight title defence to Dillian Whyte.
25-year-old Tommy will fight on the same card as his brother, Roman Fury, who will face Croatian Josip Pehar in a heavyweight contest.
Tommy’s forthcoming opponent is unknown to British fight fans, but the 27-year-old from Bosnia and Herzegovina experienced over 100 amateur bouts and has a 75% KO ratio.
Because of this, Hanjalic has sent a warning shot to ‘TNT’ Tommy telling him that hard work wins fights not famous surnames.
Speaking exclusively to British Boxing News, Hanjalic said, “I come from Sarajevo and proudly represent Gladiator Club Sarajevo, with over 100 amateur fights behind me – each one shaping me into the fighter I am today.
“With the support of Home Boxing Promotion and my manager Željko Stegić, I’m stepping into the ring on May 9th in Budapest to face Tommy Fury with one mission – to win.
“I respect every opponent, but names don’t win fights – hard work, discipline, and heart do. It’s my time to prove that I belong at the top. I’m not going there to be anyone’s test – I’m going there to cause an upset.
“Thank you to everyone in Sarajevo and around the world who believes in me. This is my moment.”
