Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano 2 will take place on Paul-Tyson July 20 card
It was revealed yesterday that Katie Taylor will be fighting Amanda Serrano on a non-Matchroom event and now her promoter Eddie Hearn has reacted to that news.
Since their thrilling encounter at Madison Square Garden in April 2022, where Taylor secured a split decision victory over her rival Serrano, fans have been eagerly anticipating a rematch.
After more than two years, their wish is finally granted and Taylor will defend her undisputed super-lightweight titles in this highly anticipated rematch following two bouts with Chantelle Cameron in 2023 which saw her falling short in their first encounter before avenging her defeat in November, thereby securing undisputed status in a second weight division having already done so at lightweight.
Serrano, on the other hand, was set for a significant homecoming fight in March but a sudden eye injury forced the cancellation of the bout on the night of the event.
The Taylor vs Serrano rematch will consist of 10 two-minute rounds, despite Serrano’s recent history of competing in and campaigning for three-minute rounds in world title bouts.
Speaking to Boxing Social, promoter Hearn has now spoken out about this fight.
“We negotiated the whole fight because it’s the right opportunity for Katie Taylor and the right offer and I want to thank DAZN for allowing us to do the right thing. When we receive the right offer like this we have to consider it. It’s honest, to say this is a good offer, we believe we can win the fight, let’s take it. once she beats Amanda Serrano, Katie Taylor is going to be back [with Matchroom].”
