Irish superstar Katie Taylor guaranteed huge payday for Amanda Serrano rematch
It was recently announced that Irish boxing legend Katie Taylor has signed for a rematch with Amanda Serrano, two years since their initial showdown that will forever live in the memory of boxing fans for all of the right reasons.
Taylor and Serrano went toe-to-toe at Madison Square Garden back in April 2022 in what can only be summarised as a modern-day classic and a turning point for women’s boxing, where Katie Taylor edged out a legendary split-decision win.
Now the iconic duo are poised for yet another mammoth encounter, this time meeting on what is likely to be the most viewed boxing event of the year – the Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson Netflix card.
As a result, the bout will take place without the official involvement of Eddie Hearn or Matchroom Boxing but Taylor’s demands to maintain 10x 2-minute rounds have still been adhered to.
After breaking the record for most viewed female-headlined card of all-time in their first battle, Taylor and Serrano are set to make history once again in their rematch, with the Irish Independent reporting that it shall be ‘the richest-ever fight in women’s professional boxing’.
“Katie Taylor will earn an estimated six million dollar purse when she defends her five super lightweight world titles in the 80,000-seater capacity Arlington Stadium in Texas on July 20 against Amanda Serrano.”
The newspaper also went on to explaining the reasoning as to why Serrano accepted Taylor’s request of 10x 2-minute rounds, as she seeks to avenge one of her two career defeats in what will be her 50th professional contest.
“While my focus continues to be on giving women the choice to fight with the same rules as men, I’ve always said that this is the one fight I’d go back to 10×2 for if that’s what Katie wanted.
“I’m coming for her belts, she wants 10×2, so that’s what we will do.”
The Paul-Tyson card will take place on July 20th, live on Netflix.
