Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano 2 won’t take place in Ireland if it happens
Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn is exploring a potential rematch between Katie Taylor (23-1, 6 KOs) and Amanda Serrano (46-2-1, 30 KOs) in Las Vegas, with a showdown in Ireland being cast to one side.
After years of hinting at a mega night in Dublin, with murmurs of a Chantelle Cameron trilogy fight at Croke Park, Hearn has decided to move in a different direction.
As opposed to the stadium that seats more than 80,000, Hearn is now eyeing up an alternative venue to host Taylor’s next outing.
Speaking with RTE, he said: “Absolutely, the Serrano rematch is an option for the next fight. It would be a huge fight.
“I think it is the fight that makes sense for Katie Taylor. A stateside fight is definitely appealing after the success of their fight at Madison Square Garden. Katie wants the biggest fights.”
Taylor comes off a comprehensive majority decision win over Cameron back in November last year, when she avenged her sole defeat as a professional which came as a huge upset earlier that year.
Both encounters took place at the 3Arena in Dublin, where the Irish super star has established herself as one of the biggest names in the sport.
While many have been clamouring for a trilogy with Cameron, Taylor has unfinished business with Serrano after their fight-of-the-year contender in 2022.
The 37-year-old came away with the victory and all of the jewellery after their enthralling showdown at a sold-out Madison Square Garden.
However, Serrano felt that she did enough to edge the razor-thin, thrilling dustup, and has been campaigning for a rematch ever since.
The seven-weight Puerto Rican world champion made history in her last fight by becoming the first woman to fight over 12 three-minute rounds – a contest that she won convincingly to retain her featherweight titles.
Now, it seems that both icons are gearing towards a clash in Sin City, which Taylor will, almost certainly, have to move down from super lightweight for.
