Texas Throwdown: Julio Cesar Chavez Jr vs Darren Till on July 20
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (53-6-1, 34KO) will face professional boxing debutant Darren Till on July 20 in Texas on the undercard of Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson.
The unlikely pair will meet at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington over six rounds at light-heavyweight.
It’s been 31 months since the Mexican former world champion was last in a boxing ring and almost 12 years since the 38-year-old was a world champion.
He has lost half of his last 10 bouts and now he steps in to provide Englishman Darren Till as his debut opponent.
31 from Liverpool, Till is a former professional mixed martial artist and Muay Thai fighter. He competed in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), where he fought in both the welterweight and middleweight divisions, and challenged for the UFC Welterweight Championship in September 2018.
Chavez Jr. has already competed against an MMA star, when took on and lost to Anderson Silva in Mexico in 2021. He came back to win against Peru’s David Zegarra in December that year and hasn’t been active since.
The rematch between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano also takes place on the groundbreaking event, which sees broadcast giants Netflix televise their first ever live pro boxing event.
20-year-old prodigy Ashton Sylve steps up against unbeaten Floyd Schofield on the undercard.
