Journeyman Jordan Grannum reveals trade secrets
31-year-old Londoner, Jordan Grannum (11-138-5), lifted the lid on life as journeyman and had an important message for up-and-coming prospects, which they would do well to listen to.
Speaking to Steve Lillis and John Evans on the VIP Boxing YouTube channel, ‘The Brown Eagle’ Jordan Grannum revealed the one thing aspiring prospects should never do against him, “I just don’t want them to take the p*ss, when they start waving their arms around or doing shuffles, that’s gonna p*ss me off! So, I’ll definitely do more when them situations arise.”
The Arsenal fan from Islington has fought 154 times in under 10 years as a pro, clocking up over 700 rounds. He has fought 11 times this year alone, and kicked off his 2024 campaign in February by fighting five times in five weeks.
The middleweight journeyman has mixed it with the likes of Sam Eggington; Johnny Garton; Aaron McKenna; Zak Chelli; Mitchell Frearson, to name just a few.
He continued, “But then there are sometimes when the boy’s really, really good and I’ve got to go into journeyman mode, but I’m comfortable in journeyman mode because my defence is very tight.
“I don’t take many shots, I feel fresher than ever, people don’t understand this and I’m 154 fights deep but I’ve never felt fresher than I do now.”
The likeable Londoner went on to reveal the best venue he has ever fought in, “The best venue I’ve been to was the Conlan-Lopez [The SSE Arena in Belfast], I was on the undercard of that. That was like 30,000 [spectators], by the time I fought, everyone had cleared off, but that was a big, big venue.”
On the flip side, he named his worst venue, “One that would come to mind would be a show I did not too long ago in Wetherby, it was a pub actually [The Engine Shed] and that was a bit weird, the way the people were standing at the the top.
“Worst venue, I don’t know if I’ve got one on the top of my head, but I have been to some sh*tholes. I don’t even look at it like it’s the worse really, I’m there to just do a job. Me, personally, I do like it when there’s not a lot of people. I prefer it just be quiet, I just like to work in silence.”
Grannum’s next fight takes place in Dublin on July 26.
