British heavyweight is adamant Zhilei Zhang wins over ‘sell-out’ Deontay Wilder
A former sparring partner of Anthony Joshua has claimed that Deontay Wilder is only taking a huge fight with Zhilei Zhang because he is ‘cashing out’ as her approaches the final chapter of his boxing career.
Wilder was last out on the epic ‘Day of Reckoning’ card out in Saudi Arabia on December 23 and was handed a 12-round points loss by a resurgent Joseph Parker.
Parker managed to keep the fearsome puncher at bay throughout the entire fight by moving fluidly and staying safe on the outside, scoring his shots then keeping on the move.
He then did similar against Zhang when the pair met in March, also out in Saudi Arabia, on the undercard of Joshua vs Francis Ngannou.
However, Zhang wasn’t negative and unwilling to engage like Wilder was, which is why he was able to score two knockdowns during the contest.
Now, both Zhang and Wilder are looking to rebuild from defeats and get back into world title contention when they face each other on June 1 as part of the Matchroom vs Queensbury 5 on 5 event in Saudi.
However, British heavyweight Matty Harris has been speaking to Boxing Social and thinks that Wilder knows the end is nigh and that he is only taking this fight as a way of cashing out.
Asked who he is picking to win, he was quick to answer, “Zhang; only because Wilder, I feel like he’s just trying to cash out. He said that never in a million years would he sign with Eddie Hearn, but he has. I just think he’s trying to make a bit of dough then disappear.”
Also on the card will be Craig Richards who meets Willy Hutchinson, Ammo Williams clashes with Hamzah Sheeraz, Daniel Dubois faces Fillip Hrgovic and the bumper bill is topped by a light-heavyweight title showdown between unbeaten unified champions Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol.
