Anthony Joshua adamant he won’t wait for Tyson Fury anymore
Despite the announcement this week of his next fight, Anthony Joshua is aiming to fight Tyson Fury after he has finished with Daniel Dubois on September 21.
AJ will meet the new IBF World heavyweight champion Dubois in an all-British heavyweight clash at Wembley Stadium in a bid to become a three-time word champ.
However, he has allowed himself to glimpse past that post-summer sizzler to call out long-term rival Fury once more. The pair have been on a collision course for what seems like an eternity, but now the 34-year-old from Watford has demanded that they fight next, regardless of their next results.
Anthony Joshua declared, “I don’t mind anymore whether he wins or loses. I just want to fight him, it’s been dragging on. Fury ducks a lot of people, he doesn’t fight many top-tier people. He needs to get on with it and come and fight me and stop wasting my time.”
Morecombe man Fury rematches with his only conqueror Usyk on December 21 in Riyadh in a bid to reverse his sole career defeat.
Usyk became a two-weight undisputed champion when he split-decisioned ‘The Gypsy King’ in Saudi Arabia last month.
Both Brits have lost to the same man, with AJ beaten unanimously in their first fight in 2021, then again on a split decision in 2022, where he made the contest far more competitive.
Fury’s fight with Usyk was far more even, but was penalised with a 10-8 round when the ropes propped him up in the ninth. Although Joshua was wobbled a few times in his first encounter with Usyk, he wasn’t hurt as much as Fury was. However, their first fight was almost a mismatch in class, with Usyk winning incredibly comfortably.
Joshua has the powerful Dubois to contend with in three months time, which is a fight he is currently the bookies favourite for.
