Josh Taylor vs Jack Catterall rematch postponed but new date immediately named
Josh Taylor has suffered an injury in his training camp so his upcoming fight with Jack Catterall on April 27 has subsequently been postponed.
The rematch has been immediately rescheduled for May 25 at the same venue in Leeds – live on DAZN.
The fight has already been two years in the making, so another month’s delay shouldn’t be too great an upset for fight fans who are so eager to see the replay after the first fight ended in such controversy.
Most spectators that night in Glasgow in February 2022 had the challenger winning, especially after a knockdown, inflicting cuts on Taylor’s left eye, plus a point deduction for the champion in the 11th. However, rightly or wrongly, the defending champion, fighting in his own back yard, was somehow able to nick a split decision to retain his undisputed super lightweight status, but not without a public outcry.
The bad blood between them has continued ever since, which is why this rematch is aptly titled, ‘Hate Runs Deep’.
Tickets remain valid for the revised date with refunds for the sold-out event at the First Direct Arena also available, in line with the terms and conditions of ticket agency partners.
Peter McGrail’s rematch with Ja’Rico O’Quinn will now take place on April 27 at the Exhibition Centre Liverpool.
Full details for this NXTGEN event will be announced by Matchroom in due course.
