Jon Jones shares Anthony Joshua vs Francis Ngannou prediction
Reigning UFC heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, has looked ahead to next weeks’ crossover showdown between Anthony Joshua and former UFC superstar, Francis Ngannou, clearly leaning toward one of the two hard-hitting combatants.
Ngannou had been linked to a fight with Jones, who is perceived as possibly the greatest UFC fighter of all time, but the bout never manufactured and the Cameroonian then left the organisation in favour of a move to both professional boxing and the Professional Fighters League.
That decision seems to have paid off, with Ngannou now becoming a fan-favourite across both sports after his spirited performance against Tyson Fury on his debut, where he knocked down ‘The Gypsy King’ and was on the wrong side of a razor-thin split-decision call from the judges.
Now Ngannou is seeking to go one better and land his first win as a boxer, but once again he is jumping in at the deep end by taking on two-time heavyweight world champion, ‘AJ’, and Jon Jones told PFL MMA that his money would be on the Brit, as much as he would love Ngannou to win.
“I am rooting for Francis to win, only because of his story and how far he has come in life and him being a fellow mixed-martial-artist. How could you not root for Francis? Francis is a wonderful, stand-up person, so I am rooting for Francis, but Anthony Joshua has been doing this since he was a young boy and I am the type of guy that gives respect where it is due. So, if I had to personally put my money on it, I would put it on Anthony Joshua, but I am rooting for Francis. Sorry Francis!”
