Johnny Nelson switches between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury based on last performances
Never one to shy away from a big prediction, Johnny Nelson now sees Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua’s fight different than he has recently.
Joshua has very much changed the tide of public opinion with results in his recent fights.
After a points victory and then knockout success against Jermaine Franklin and Robert Helenius last year, he has taken on two former Fury opponents in Otto Wallin in December and Francis Nagnnout in early March.
Where Fury, the WBC and lineal champion who remains unbeaten, struggled with both men and was cut baldy by Wallin and put down by Ngaannou and only managed to win both on points, Joshua beat both men convincingly. Wallin was retired on his stool, and Ngannou was left unconscious on the canvas.
Speaking to Boxing News, Nelson has reassessed Joshua’s chances against Fury in light of this.
“I’ve been asked prior and first I said Joshua, then I said Fury, Fury’s performances have gone flat, so now I say Joshua again.
“You’ve got to look at their last performances and looking at that now anybody would say Joshua. Both these fighters are assessed on today’s form, that’s what you’ve got to look at and assess it on.”
He was then asked if he thought Joshua would beat Fury if the two met now.
“Yes I would. By Knockout. He showed confidence in setting the shots up and good power.”
For this match-up to happen, Fury must first get through Oleskandr Usyk in their undisputed fight on May 18.
