Tyson Fury media silence raises concerns for Johnny Nelson
The Fury camp, known for meticulous training overseen by Sugar Hill Steward, has been put under the microscope amid unusual silence from the outspoken heavyweight champion, raising concerns for pundit, Johnny Nelson.
Fury faces Oleksandr Usyk in the first undisputed heavyweight title fight in the four-belt era, which takes place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on February 17.
The winner will be crowned the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis, but Nelson has doubts about Fury’s preparation, despite favouring the 35-year-old.
In an interview with Boxing Social, the former WBO world cruiserweight champion said: “I’ve always picked Fury to beat Usyk, but he has been uncommonly quiet in the build-up to this fight, which concerns me.
“I hope he’s just isolating himself and understands the importance of this fight.”
Known for his boisterous personality, it seems strange for Fury, posting on his own social media pages, not to be at the top of everyone’s feeds.
Nelson spoke about hearing rumours out of his camp, from those closest to the gym, that Fury’s time in boxing may soon be up.
Much of these concerns have risen since the WBC and lineal champion was dropped by debutant Francis Ngannou in the 3rd round of their contest last year.
Fury’s father John admitted that their training camp for the fight was not great, and his brother has spoken about the number of yes-men around Tyson.
Nelson added: “I know he’s got the talent, but, if the time is not right and the right Fury doesn’t turn up, Usyk beats him.
“If the Fury that boxed Ngannou turns up, he will get stopped.”
