John Fury: “They’re just making themselves look silly and stupid”
John Fury is not too happy that some people have claimed that his son Tyson inflicted the cut that delayed the undisputed title fight on himself saying, ‘they’re embarrassing themselves.’
Tyson Fury faces Oleksandr Usyk on May 18 out in Saudi Arabia in a historic undisputed fight. It is the first time since 1999 that all four major belts will be up for grabs on the same night. The fight was supposed to happen on February 17 but late in camp, a sparring partner inflicted a cut that required 11 stitches above Fury’s eye.
Speculation became rife in the aftermath that Fury might retire and never fight again, that he was below par in sparring so needed to do something to delay that fight and that he might have cut himself in order to get out of the fight.
His father, John, came to his son’s defence and got involved in his own war of words with the likes of Carl Froch over the matter. Now, speaking to FreeBets, he has spoken again about people who said Fury cut himself.
“I’m surprised men of their experience at the top level, being around top fighters, can even talk like that. It’s absolute rubbish. It’s silly. They’re just making themselves look silly, and stupid. I think they’re worried ’cause when they’ve seen the shape Tyson is in, they thought ‘I’ve dropped a clanger here’ cause they thought they’d see a Tyson that hasn’t trained.”
Big John Fury then went on to say his son was in great shape.
“I seen the shape Tyson was in. He was in for it Usyk. All those people riding Usyk’s pecker thinking he was going to do the job, he can’t, he can’t. Tyson was tunnel vision. Accidents happen. Let them get on with it on May 18.”
