Jazza Dickens returns and says: “Whoever’s got world titles, that’s what I’m chasing”
Former world title challenger Jazza Dickens (32-5, 12KO) is set to move up in weight in his final stab at the sport.
The 32-year-old lost his IBO featherweight title to Hector Sosa back in July last year, when he was stopped in the 10th round by the tough Argentinian in Dubai.
Now, Dickens looks to move up to 130 lbs, openly stating that he struggled to get down to the featherweight limit in his last bout.
On VIP’s Bell 2 Bell podcast, he said: “I’m not going back down to British level. I wanna get myself a ranking and get straight back in with the big boys.
“When you lose, it’s a bit like you’re back down to the lower leagues for a bit until you can prove yourself again and somebody thinks it’s worth taking a risk on you.
“I’ve won an IBO world title and to me it’s not enough. I want world titles. Whoever’s got world titles, that’s what I’m chasing.
“I’ve been offered to fight most of them [British super featherweights and I’ve said, ‘Yeah’ and then the contracts went AWOL.”
There are plenty of options for the Liverpudlian up at super featherweight, as the winner of Jordan Gill vs Zelfa Barrett – taking place in Manchester on April 13 – would make for an intriguing domestic dustup.
Another opponent to consider, before his shot at a world title, is former world champion Josh Warrington, who has also expressed an interest in moving up a division.
Dickens last fought for world honours in 2021, when he was stopped in the 11th round by awkward switch-hitter Kid Galahad.
With Welshman Joe Cordina defending his IBF strap against Anthony Cacace on May 18, the super featherweight division is seemingly brimming with British talent, and Dickens hopes not to be left out of the mix.
