Jarrell Miller: “Dubois didn’t beat me”
Big men Miller and Dubois battled it out last year in December on the historic Day of Reckoning card in Riyadh.
American Miller came out of the blocks fast, and landed some good shots on Dubois, but the young Brit rallied back and settled into his stride after weathering the early storm.
Over the course of the 10 rounds, he started getting to Miller more and more as the rounds wore on, then finally overwhelmed him with enough punches for the referee to step in and stop the fight with just seconds to go in the final round.
Miller now has a chance to get back to winning ways when he takes on Andy Ruiz on the August 3 card in LA, headlined by Terence Crawford vs Israil Madrimov for the WBA and WBO Interim super-welterweight titles.Speaking to Matchroom Boxing, 35-year-old Miller had some ideas on why he lost to Dubois last year.
“We’re risking our life in there, we’re trying to do our job, and when you have people on your back nagging and aching you, it’s hard to do that job.
“Mentally, I clocked out in the sixth round. Dubois didn’t beat me I beat myself. It hurts, because I wear my pride on my shoulders, I come to kill, come to fight, so to go out that way is not cool.
“Now I have more than enough time to prepare [for Ruiz.]”
He and Ruiz have an indirect history in that Miller was due to fight Anthony Joshua back in June 2019 but failed several drug tests so was pulled from the card and place by Ruiz who famously took his chance and defeated Joshua to become unified king.
