Jake Paul destroyed overmatched opponent Ryan Bourland in one round
Jake Paul has once again called for a fight against Canelo Alvarez after needing less than one round to KO Ryan Bourland. It was the internet celebrity’s second consecutive first-round KO, after stopping Andre August in one round last December.
27-year-old Jake Paul was facing Ryan Bourland in Puerto Rico on Saturday night, live on DAZN, and despite Bourland being a 17-2 professional boxer heading into the fight, was outmatched by his opponent.
A barrage of shots towards the end of round one from Jake Paul was enough to force the referee to step in and wave off the bout, seeing Paul extend his record to 9-1, with six wins by knockout.
The Youtuber-turned-boxer wasted no time in calling for an unlikely showdown with pound-for-pound super middleweight superstar Canelo.
“Canelo, stop ducking. I know you want it. I’m repping Puerto Rico, you’re repping Mexico, so it’s Puerto Rico vs Mexico.
“I want Canelo. I want all the biggest names. Like I said, I’m the face of this sport. Truly, who’s doing more for boxing than me? I keep on proving myself time and time again.
‘I’m on the path to [becoming] world champion and I want to keep on fighting tougher fights. If a money fight pops up, I’ll take it because those are fun. But for now I’m staying on the path of fighting real fighters and increasing the level of opposition.”
Canelo is expected to return for a Cinco de Mayo showdown in May against fellow Mexican Jaime Munguia, potentially followed by a fight in September against rising star Edgar Berlanga, so that immediately thwarts any possibility of a fight with Paul this year.
