Hughie Fury opponent revealed ahead of comeback this month
Former WBO heavyweight title challenger and cousin of reigning WBC champion Tyson Fury, Hughie Fury, is finally set to return the ring after a lengthy spell on the sidelines that has frozen the 29-year-old out of the heavyweight title picture.
Fury lost out to Joseph Parker via majority decision in his only attempt at world honours to date, although that loss is ageing like a fine wine considering the New Zealander’s recent wins over both Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang. However, Fury has not fought since October 2021, where he knocked out Christian Hammer, and has twice pulled out of contests against Michael Hunter, after a persistent ordeal with long-covid.
Yet, it was recently confirmed that Hughie Fury would make a comeback to the heavyweight division after his two-and-a-half-year hiatus, appearing on a GBM Sports card at the Magna Centre in Rotherham, headlined by Shakiel Thompson’s (11-0) IBF European middleweight title challenge against Vladimir Georgiev (12-3).
Today it has been announced that Fury (26-3) will be tasked with notoriously tough journeyman, Kostiantyn Dovbyshchenko (10-15-1), who famously knocked out British prospect Matty Harris last year, IFL TV reports.

“CONFIRMED
@HughieFury will face Kostiantyn Dovbyshchenko on his return to boxing after a two-and-a-half-year absence next Saturday. He is also set to feature on the Price/McCaskill undercard three weeks later.”
Despite what appears to be a poor record on paper, Dovbyshchenko carries a reputation as one of the hardest fighters in the game, having never been knocked out despite fights against the likes of Zhan Kossobutskiy, Moses Itauma and Tom Schwarz.
Therefore, Fury will still have the chance to record a statement win by becoming the first fighter to knock out the Ukrainian on April 20th, just three weeks before Fury is scheduled to fight again on the McCaskill-Price card in Cardiff on May 11th.
