Matty Harris pleased with his progress under Peter Fury
Peter Fury-trained heavyweight ‘Magic’ Matty Harris (5-1, 4KO) is ready for a return to the ring this Friday, March 1, at the Telford International Centre.
The young heavyweight from Leamington Spa has had a tough start to his professional career, suffering a loss in just his sixth fight to relatively unknown Kostiantyn Dovbyshchenko.
The defeat came as a surprise to many, including Harris himself, who has been touted as one of the most promising British prospects in the heavyweight division, still just 24-years-old.
In preparation for his upcoming bout, ‘Magic’ has taken a new approach, deciding to work with trainer Peter Fury, in an attempt to get his career back on track.
Speaking to Boxing Social, Harris seems optimistic about his decision, listing the improvements he feels have been made under his new coach.
“Big one in terms of mentality. Even in terms of my ability, my fitness, everything else around that.”
The 24-year-old continued, making it clear that he never again plans to find himself in the situation he encountered after his last outing.
“Anybody that knows Peter, that’s been in a Peter Fury training camp knows that he pushes his fighters, he makes you work hard.
“I was never afraid of hard work and after the last time, I said I would do whatever I’ve got to do, to make sure I don’t experience that again.
“If that meant changing to Peter, as I said, I’ll follow what he says to a tee. I’ll go in there and I’ll put in the work to make sure that I don’t experience that again.”
Headlining the card, Sam Eggington is hoping to achieve European honours as he faces off against Abass Baraou for the EBU super welterweight strap.
Eggington is currently rated as the WBA #15. It has recently been revealed that the matchup will serve as a WBA eliminator, meaning a win for the Brit will see him within touching distance of achieving world title glory.
Baraou-Eggington will be live on Channel 5 from 10pm and you can watch the undercard on DAZN from 7pm. Full ringwalk times and running order can be found here.
