Hamzah Sheeraz discusses domestic dust-up with Chris Eubank Jr.
After Hamzah Sheeraz (20-0, 16KO) secured his career-best win last month in Saudi, talk immediately surfaced of a showdown with Chris Eubank Jr. (33-3, 24KO), now that the pair are considered the top two middleweights in the UK.
Despite talks being held at present, the unbeaten WBC Silver champion is disappointingly not optimistic about securing the domestic showdown with the Brighton boxer.
Speaking to TalkSport, Sheeraz commented, “I just don’t think it’ll happen, I just feel like he’s going to come with silly little clauses in the contract.
“I’ve already got a few whispers what could be in there as well and it’s a bit silly, to be fair.
“I’ve just got to concentrate and crack on with my career.”
Prior to this, the 25-year-old reiterated his desire to make the fight, asserting, “In an ideal world, if I could wave a magic wand and make it happen, it’d be the Chris Eubank Jr. fight.
“Reason being is because I feel he’s the biggest name domestically and, bar the Conor Benn fight, I feel like I’m the biggest fight out there next.”
With Sheeraz currently ranked #3 with the IBO and Eubank Jr. at #1, there’s a real possibility the Brits could battle for the vacant middleweight championship. Full IBO Top 15 world rankings HERE
However, Sheeraz echoed his pessimism, “Do I think it’s going to happen? No, not really.
“I feel like I’ll get the WBC title shot instead; I feel that’s the more realistic route I’ll take.
“Listen I’m not complaining, whether it’s Chris Eubank Jr. or the WBC title shot, both options are great for my career and me financially.”
WBC World middleweight champion Carlos Adames defends his belt to Terrell Gausha this weekend, June 15, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
With Sheeraz ranked at #2 and holding the WBC Silver strap, the Brit is in pole position to force his shot next.
