Hamzah Sheeraz is out in Riyadh planning his next fight: “I can’t say what, but it’ll be a big one”
British boxing golden boy Hamzah Sheeraz (19-0, 15 KOs) reveals exciting news about his next fight, with plans being put in place during his stay in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The 24-year-old is in the Middle East ahead of “Knockout Chaos” – a mouth-watering card headlined by Anthony Joshua vs Francis Ngannou this Friday, March 8.
But, aside from the heavyweight action, middleweight contender Sheeraz is focused on securing his next opponent, who he could face for his first shot at world honours.
Speaking with Queensbury Boxing, he said: “Listen, after the last fight, loads of doors have opened up now. And we’re here for a reason, so we’re cementing something in, something big for sure. I can’t say what, but it’ll be a big one.”
Sheeraz’s career has been largely navigated by Hall of Fame promoter Frank Warren, ever since the undefeated Brit made his professional debut back in 2017.
Since his scintillating performance – which took place in February at the Copper Box Arena – Sheeraz has seemingly catapulted himself towards the world level scene at 160 lbs.
Now, after years of people predicting that he will elevate British boxing to new heights, Sheeraz is linked with unified champion Zhanibek Alimkhanuly who, as it happens, is also currently in Riyadh.
Alimkhanuly – who many believe, with good reason, is a largely avoided fighter – Acquired the IBF strap after stopping Vincenzo Gualtieri in the sixth round of their contest last October.
Having previously won the WBO belt – beating Essex’s Danny Dignum and then defending it against London’s Denzel Bentley – Alimkhanuly is widely considered to be the best in the division, and has already earned a fearsome reputation against British fighters.
Sheeraz, then, could potentially end the fearsome Kazahk’s run, as it is likely that negotiations for their showdown have already begun.
