Gervonta Davis vs Frank Martin showdown set for summer
Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis looked for a while like his next fight might be against Brit Conor Benn but now he seems set to defend his WBA lightweight title against Frank Martin in the summer.
In April 2022, Davis faced Ryan Garcia in a high-stakes pay-per-view match at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Davis showcased his dominance by dropping Garcia in the second round and ultimately securing victory with a powerful body shot in the seventh round. This defeat marked the first in Garcia’s professional career, while Davis further solidified his undefeated record, now standing at 29-0, with an impressive 27 wins by knockout.
According to a post on X by ESPN journalist Mike Coppinger, the WBA lightweight title won by ‘Tank’ in 2019 will now be on the line and being defended by the current champion in this next fight.
“Gervonta Davis and Frank Martin have agreed to a deal for a PBC PPV fight in late spring/early summer for Tank’s WBA lightweight title, sources tell ESPN.
“Davis’ legal trouble sidelined him the second half of last year, but now he’s back vs. a legitimate top 10 lightweight.
“And for Martin, it’s the sort of big fight he was looking for after he passed up the Shakur Stevenson opportunity in the fall. Tank and Martin both undefeated, and both are athletic punchers. Of course, Davis one of the biggest stars in boxing.”
