Eddie Hearn speaking to Gervonta Davis to make Conor Benn fight happen
Self-proclaimed ‘face of boxing’, Gervonta Davis, is continuing to seek out future opponents with his future in the lightweight division already looking unlikely, despite being crowned as the WBA champion just weeks ago. Now ‘Tank’ has revealed that he is open to a clash with controversial British welterweight contender, Conor Benn, sharing a private message from Eddie Hearn [Benn’s promoter] that shows interest from both parties.
Davis was upgraded from WBA (Regular) lightweight champion to the full WBA (Super) title-holder earlier this year, which seemed to open the door for unification bouts against the likes of Shakur Stevenson and the winner of Lomachenko-Kambosos. However, since the beginning of his reign, the American has shown a lack of interest in his 135lb rivals and has instead been linked to showdowns at both 140lbs and 147lbs.
On X, Davis shared a message from Eddie Hearn, who enquired as to whether he would be willing to face Benn, who went the distance with Peter Dobson on Saturday night in a below-par display.

Benn’s ongoing dispute with the BBBofC has all-but ruled him out of fighting on British shores for the foreseeable future, hence his two outings in the United States over the last six months, following an 18-month lay-off after he failed a drugs test in the build-up to his grudge match against Chris Eubank Jr.
‘The Destroyer’ first went ten rounds with Rodolfo Orozco back in September and banked a further 12 rounds against Dobson at the weekend in two heavily criticised performances, which fans believe Benn should’ve been able to prevent from going to the judges’ scorecards.
With Benn underperforming as of late and Davis seeming keen to move on from lightweight, the timing could be right for ‘Tank’ to take the opportunity while it is there, although potential showdowns against the likes of Devin Haney or Teofimo Lopez would likely lure him away.
